The Lincoln Trail District Health Department consists of local health departments in the following counties: Grayson, Hardin (locations in Radcliff and Elizabethtown), LaRue, Marion, Meade, Nelson, and Washington. Listed below are some of the exciting things happening on behalf of the wellness coalitions in each county and their contact information.

GRAYSON – The Grayson County Health and Wellness Coalition is hosted by the Board of Education and meets every other month. It is comprised of health and PE teachers, school nurses, and Family Resource personnel from the local schools, as well as representatives from the Health Department and the local hospital. A current project they are undertaking is to get a historic trail mapped through Leitchfield with cooperation from city officials. For more information, please call (270) 259-3141.

HARDIN – Hardin County’s wellness coalition meets on an as needed basis at the Extension Office. They are currently in the middle of an eleven week project called Small Steps to Health and Wealth in conjunction with the local Farmer’s Market. LARUE – The LaRue County Wellness Coalition is comprised of representatives from the Health Department, the Extension Office, school Family Resource personnel, LaRue County ASAP, and the Chamber of Commerce. Their goal is to improve the health of their community through education and outreach. Some of their recent projects include creating a physical activity resource guide, starting a bicycle club, and sponsoring a family health fair. For more information, please call (270) 358-3844.

MARION – The mission of the Marion County Fitness and Nutrition (FAN) Coalition is to improve the health of children and their families through the prevention of weight problems and related chronic diseases. The coalition targets all children, not just those who are overweight, and involves individuals and groups from throughout the county. The FAN Coalition is made up of members from the Health Department, the Board of Education, Spring View Hospital, and the Extension Office. The FAN Coalition meets the third Thursday of every month. One of their big annual projects includes hosting its Family Fitness and Safety Day for children in grades K-6 and their families. For more information, please call (270) 692-3393.

MEADE – The Meade County Wellness Taskforce meets on a quarterly basis at the Extension Office. It is comprised of representatives from the Health Department, the Extension Office, the Meade County Public Library, Curves for Women, and local physician’s offices. One of the Taskforce’s biggest projects is Get Moving Meade County—an eight week physical activity competition in which individuals and teams of four compete to accumulate the most minutes of physical activity. NELSON – The Nelson County Health Coalition meets at Nelson County High School. Past projects include participation in health fairs, Youth Fest, Prom Promise and Prom Breakfast at the high school. WASHINGTON – One of Washington County’s Wellness Coalition goals for the coming year is to collaborate with the school Food Service Director to make some healthy changes in school cafeteria offerings. Another project is the Youth Community Garden Project which teaches nutrition, physical activity and botany to special education students of all ages.
